Decarbonization, digitalization, deglobalization, and demographic change – four megatrends are paving the way to success

Four megatrends are shaping the economy and society today. ABP Induction is focusing its activities on these topics. First, there is decarbonization with related issues such as sustainability and the circular economy. Resource efficiency is part of every ambitious climate protection package: a resource-efficient circular system is a key element in the transition to a low-greenhouse-gas economy.

Digitalization can play an important role here, as it fundamentally changes production processes – the second major topic from ABP’s perspective. The use of digital applications can increase the efficiency of renewable energy provision, optimize energy consumption, improve the use of electricity and hydrogen, and enable smart applications.

Deglobalization refers to the major political changes taking place around the world. It involves shifting production to different regions, partly to reduce economic dependence. Disruptions such as trade wars and nationalism, which threaten supply chains, also play a role here.

Virtually every industrial company is also struggling with the effects of demographic change, which is leading to a glaring shortage of young talent. This makes it difficult for companies to implement digital solutions for greater resource efficiency. There is a lack of expertise, and the demand for skilled workers with digital expertise will increase in the coming years. Skilled workers with digital user skills and basic competencies are in high demand. Strategies are therefore needed to get young people excited about industry and to secure the knowledge of skilled workers.
